Ash Wednesday Noon Service

Wednesday, February 14th marks the beginning of the season of Lent, when we continue tracing the life of Jesus from his baptism and early ministry all the way until his passion on Good Friday. We will offer two services that day: at 7:30 AM and a 12:00 PM. Both brief services will be in Room 101 and feature song, scripture, prayer, and (optional) ashing. The putting on of ashes in Scripture and in the the tradition of the Church is an outward expression that symbolizes frailty or death (Gen. 18:27), sadness or mourning (Esther 4:3) and repentance (Jn 3:6). As we begin a season with an increased focus on repentance and fasting, we journey with Jesus into a calling of self-denying love of God and neighbor that is made possible only by his grace, his sacrifice on our behalf, and his Spirit's work to remake our desires.
